Fabric Choice 101: Our Simple Tips

When it comes to customising your dream sofa, fabric choice is one of the biggies. Not only does it affect the overall look and comfort, but also the durability.

With so many options, it can be an overwhelming decision. Here’s our tips for the top 3 things you need to consider.

 1. Practicality

The fabric you choose should be practical and durable enough to match your lifestyle. If you have pets or young children, you may want to opt for a stain-resistant or easy-to-clean fabric. Many of our fabrics have inbuilt fabric protection. Great technology!
Most upholstery fabrics are rated for durability with a Martindale test score, which shows how much wear it will take before there is a noticeable change in appearance. We can explain this to you and make suggestions that suit your family and lifestyle.

Some of the most luxurious looking fabrics can actually have a very high score, so there’s absolutely no reason to compromise on looks for durability.

2. Comfort

The fabric you choose should not only look good, but it should also feel good. Consider the type of fibres used in the fabric and whether they are soft or scratchy.

Don’t choose a wool if you like to sit around in shorts is our advice! We’ve got loads to choose from; with everything from cosy to coastal vibes.

3. Appearance

Because our sofas are custom made, you have an unlimited choice of fabric. Colours and textures come in and out of fashion and certain colours are more family friendly.

Some customers know exactly what they want. But if you’re unsure, we can help you select a fabric that works with your existing decor or is the starting point for the new. We love colour but we're prepared to be neutral!

Ultimately, the right fabric for your custom sofa will depend on your personal style and needs. By considering these factors, you can choose a fabric that not only looks beautiful, stands the test of time and is perfectly comfortable.
